MY REVIEW:

I’m so glad to finally get to Aiden’s story! Honestly, who doesn’t love romances with a gaming hell owner? Those are some of my favorites.

While the premise of the plot of this one is not my favorite, I really enjoyed how it was executed. Aiden and Selena saved the story from being too much of an eye roll. Selena, Duchess of Lushing, needs to get with child – fast – to pass off the child as her recently deceased husband’s heir. I was genuinely worried about the deception in the beginning, but I also understand where she was coming from. Women had so little power in that era and she truly thought that plan of action would save her family financially and she was willing to do anything to help them.

But she clearly met her match with Aiden Trewlove. Their chemistry jumped off the page from the get go and you knew her heart was going to get in the way of using Aiden. I will say, there was one scene midway through the book that had me extremely worried it would go the way of that controversial scene of The Duke and I/Bridgerton TV show, but I’m so glad it didn’t. I’m also glad that moment served as a wake up call for Selena and she didn’t keep Aiden in the dark for the whole book. Seeing them both fall in love with each other and realize that they might need to give that up to achieve their end goals was a roller coaster of emotion.

There was also some crazy side plots with Aiden and Finn’s terrible father and his countess, but I honestly didn’t care that that storyline was a bit over the top (there was a literal poisoning!). It didn’t feel forced into the overarching story either as parentage and who is responsible for the sins of bastards is a recurring theme.

I’m so glad I decided to give this series enough go as I’m loving them. On to Fancy’s book next!
