Once again, I find myself asking how it is the end of the month already?? Summer truly flew by this year and I’m in denial that fall is right around the corner.
While August might have flew by, it was also an incredible reading month for me. I didn’t even realize how much I read until I sat down to write this. This month I read 11 books, bringing my total for the year up to 77 books! I’m feeling really good about surpassing my goal of reading a 100 books this month based on how the last few months of reading have gone.
August 2021 Reads
Looking back at my August TBR, I read 8 out of the 10 books on the list. The two I missed were The Day of the Duchess (which I skimmed for scenes of Caleb and Sesily in prep for Bombshell) and It Happened One Summer which I still really want to get to!
Here’s what I actually read:
Castles Ever After Series by Tessa Dare
All four of these books were on my August TBR as part of the the But Do They Bang? readalong! This was a reread for me as I truly love this series. Keep an eye out on the blog over the next month or so for reviews of all these.
A Lady by Midnight by Tessa Dare
Another book from my August TBR. I read book three of the Spindle Cove out of order as I feel a bit behind on the reread of it during But Do They Bang? but I did finally catch up! This book is my least favorite in the series as Kate and Thorne just don’t work for me.

Exposed by Kristen Callihan
Kristen Callihan delivered another amazing entry to the VIP series! This might be my favorite of the bunch and I’m so glad I added it to my August TBR. The emotions in it were so raw. Definitely add this to your TBR if you haven’t already. You can read it without reading the other books.

Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas
This book has been on my TBR for multiple months and I finally got around to finishing it! This is book one in the Hathaways series, a spinoff of Kleypas’ Wallflowers series. I want to like this one, but I ended up with some mixed feelings on it.

Awakened by a Kiss Series by Charis Michaels
These two books were not on my August TBR but I’m so glad I read them! These were the first books by Charis Michaels I have ever read and I’m definitely a fan! I loved the spin she put on the classic tales of Snow White and Peter Pan. If you haven’t read either two of these, definitely add them to your TBR.
Bombshell by Sarah MacLean
Bombshell was definitely the most anticipated book on my August TBR, and boy did it deliver! This book truly lived up and surpassed my expectation and I loved every single minute of reading it. It even made me cry happy tears after finishing it.

Neon Gods by Katee Robert
This book was not on my August TBR, but my library hold came in right after I finished Bombshell so I had to dive in. This book had a lot of hype around it on bookstagram and I’m not a hundred percent sure it lived up to it. I also feel like I was expecting this book to be WAAAAY steamier than it was based on the conversation around it and some of the previous books I’ve read by Katee Robert. I’ll have my full review for this sometime in September.
Outside of what I read, I also got 10 reviews up this month, including:
- The Viscount Made Me Do It (Clandestine Affairs #2) by Diana Quincy
- A Night to Surrender (Spindle Cove #1) by Tessa Dare
- A Week to Be Wicked (Spindle Cove #2) by Tessa Dare
- A Lady by Midnight (Spindle Cove #3) by Tessa Dare
- Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways #1) by Lisa Kleypas
- Exposed (VIP #4) by Kristen Callihan

- When You Wish Upon a Duke (Awakened by a Kiss #2) by Charis Michaels

Be sure to check out these reviews if you missed them!
What was your favorite read of August? Mine is probably Bombshell!
