December 2021 Reading Recap

And just like that…December and 2021 are over! I’m going to focus this post solely on December as I plan to do a separate post for a 2021 year in review.

December was not the best reading month for me, which I expected as it has my birthday and the holidays, plus I was traveling and spending time with my family and that means less reading time. In December, I managed to read 7 books, which is more than I thought!

Let’s dive into what the last reads of the year were!

December 2021 Reads

I had a small TBR this month and I still only managed to read two out of the four books. Not bad, but also not great. I was a terrible mood reader this month and I’m okay with that. I know I’m not someone who can stick to a TBR or plan out reads well.

Here’s what I did manage to read:

Captain Kit Brightling Series by Chloe Neill

The Bright and Breaking Sea by Chloe Neill
A Swift and Savage Tide by Chloe Neill

My first read of December was a reread of The Bright and Breaking Sea by Chloe Neill in preparation for book two in the Captain Kit Brightling series. I really enjoy this series a lot and A Swift and Savage Tide was an excellent sequel that further developed the world and characters and upped the stakes on the romance.

I’ll have my review up for A Swift and Savage Tide sometime soon but in the meantime, check out my review here for The Bright and Breaking Sea by Chloe Neill.

An Ex for Christmas by Lauren Layne

An Ex for Christmas by Lauren Layne

I’m not a big holiday romance fan, but An Ex for Christmas by Lauren Layne is one I’ve read before and is incredibly cute. It’s a great friends to lovers story that feels like a Hallmark movie in book form.

Immortals After Dark #5 & #6 by Kresley Cole

Dark Desires After Dusk by Kresley Cole
Kiss of a Demon King

I’m fully hooked on the Immortals After Dark series and limited myself to only two books this year. Fittingly it was the books the Woede brothers, Cade and Rydstrom. Dark Desires After Dusk focuses on Cadeon and his mate Holy, while Kiss of a Demon King focused on Rydstrom and Sabine. Dark Desires After Dusk was on my December TBR and I knew as soon I was introduced to Rydstrom and Sabine in that book I would need to continue on to Kiss of a Demon King.

Of the two, I preferred Kiss of a Demon King more. I freaking loved Sabine whereas I found Holy a bit annoying. Kiss of a Demon King might be my favorite book in the series, edging out No Rest for the Wicked, but we’ll see as I still need to sit down to write reviews for both these.

Duke Gone Rogue by Christy Carlyle

Duke Gone Rogue by Christy Carlyle

Duke Gone Rogue was also on my December TBR as it was one of the few ARCs I needed to read this month. This book was such a charming seaside romance and I’m really looking forward to reading more books in the Love on Holiday series.

A Wallflower Christmas by Lisa Kleypas

A Wallflower Christmas by Lisa Kleypas

My last read of the year ironically was a Christmas novella that I read after Christmas. I fell in love with The Wallflowers series this year from Lisa Kleypas, yet somehow missed this during my read so December felt a fitting time to give it a go.

Unfortunately, I did not like this novella. I’ll have a full review up soon on this one, but suffice to say, I did not like the male romantic lead and there was a side storyline with Lillian and Marcus (my favorite couple of the Wallflowers from It Happened One Autumn) that I did not like.

December 2021 Reviews

December was probably my least productive month on the review front given how busy I was but I still managed to churn out six reviews.

If you missed any reviews this month, here’s a quick rundown of what was posted:
