Oh wow did June fly by! I cannot believe we’re already past the halfway mark of the year now.
June was a tough reading month for me, and an even tougher month for reviewing. I only read 7 books and reviewed 3. Lots of travel and then some personal things popped up. I had a scare with the health of my cat that really threw me for a loop (she’s okay now but needs IV fluids every day so it’s been an adjustment).
For the first time ever, I read more audiobooks than physical books as I just did not have the time to sit down and read as much as I would have liked. Reading more audiobooks was a goal of mine this year and I can say, I’m fully smashing that.
As June is the mid-point of the year, I’d also thought I do a little check-in on some of my other reading goals. My biggest reading goal is to read 100 books this year. At the end of June, I’ve read 48 books this year, just shy of where I need to be on track to read 100. Luckily, I’ve already finished one book in July and have three more I’m currently reading (I’m all over the place right now) so I’m feeling optimistic still about hitting my goal for the year!
Now, on to what I read in June:
June 2022 Reads
Love & Other Disasters by Anita Kelly
Love & Other Disasters was one of the many audiobooks I read this month and one I listened to in one full sitting. This was such a sweet queer romancing featuring a nonbinary lead. I’m not always the biggest fan of cooking-themed romances, but this one was delightful as the show they’re on served as a great framing device for getting London and Dahlia together.
I highly recommend you check this out on audio as Lindsey Dorcus brought so much life to the story and its characters! One of my favorite narrations on an audiobook to date!

Wildfire (Hidden Legacy #3) by Ilona Andrews
This was a reread for me as part of a buddy read I’m doing with my friend @meggatzabookclub over on IG and one of the two print books I read this month. I adore this series and on this reread I’m falling even more in love with it as I’m noticing small details of things I’ve not picked up on before. I’m so excited to finish rereading the Hidden Legacy series as I have an ARC of the newest one Ruby Fever sitting on my iPad waiting for me to read!
I swear I’m working on getting reviews for all these up on the blog, so keep an eye out for it hopefully soon!
Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston has been on my TBR for ages and my library hold for the audiobook finally came in. And I’ve got to be honest…I did not like this book. I feel like this book is so HYPED so I think I was expecting more, but I had a lot of issues with the characters in this book, the plot and even the classification of it as “enemies-to-lovers.” As I was reading this, it was announced they’re doing a movie adaptation and I’m on the fence on if I’ll watch it.
I’m aiming to get my review up on this in July so you have a better sense of why this didn’t work for me, but, yeah, this was probably my most disappointing read of July.
A Spindle Splintered (Fractured Fables #1) by Alix E. Harrow
Another audiobook read! This was a super quick book and a really fun twist on the Sleeping Beauty stories. I enjoyed how it combined a bunch of different Sleeping Beauty stories together to create something wholly unique. And I also loved that it was an LGTBQ+ story.
Hopefully will get a review up on this soon as well!
Written in the Stars (Written in the Stars #1) by Alexandria Bellefleur
Written in the Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur is another book that’s been on my TBR for what feels like ages. This is another one I did as an audiobook and I really enjoyed it. It’s a fun little Pride & Prejudice/faking dating story that was really sweet. I’m really excited to continue with this series as I really liked the secondary characters and cannot wait to read their books.
Full review to come, hopefully soon!
The Queer Principles of Kit Webb (The Queer Principles of Kit Webb #1) by Cat Sebastian
Another LGBTQ+ romance! If you cannot tell, I was doing quite a few reads for Pride Month as I was participating in a bingo but failed to plan my reads so I didn’t get bingo.
This was another book that has been on my radar since it published and book two just came out! I went into this one with no real expectations, but I ended up adoring this one! This was so cute and I loved the romance in it so much. The audiobook of it was really great – I really liked the narration though it did take me a second to adjust to the voice for Kit as it was not what I was expecting.
I’m so excited for book 2 as the ending of this left some storylines unresolved and I cannot wait to see how they get wrapped up.
Full review to come soon!
You Were Made to Be Mine (The Palace of Rogues #5) by Julie Anne Long
I fully intend to finish reading this and review it before its publication date, but life got in the way! I adore Julie Anne Long‘s book and have been looking forward to returning back to The Grand Palace on the Thames (TGPOTT) in book five in the Palace of Rogues series! This book. Oh man, it gave me so many feelings. This was a little heavier than I was expecting (CW: rape) but I really loved it. The romance was just *chef’s kiss*.

June 2022 Review
June has been my worst reviewing month since I relaunched my blog. Life got in the way so trying to not beat myself up about it too much. Hoping to get back to the schedule I have in July!
If you missed it, here’s what I reviewed in July:
- Love & Other Disasters by Anita Kelly
- How to Fake It in Hollywood by Ava Wilder
- Lothaire (Immortals After Dark #11) by Kresley Cole
What did you read in June? How are you tracking against your reading goal for the year?
