I’ve been procrastinating on writing this post for days now as I truly hate picking favorites, especially when it comes to the books I read.
2021 was a great reading year and I truly read so many books that I adored. However, I do think one book stands out in my mind as being my top favorite this year. I accidentally added it twice to my list while I was pulling this together so I take that as a sign that it deserves special recognition.
With the exception of the first book on this list, the rest of the list is in no particular order.
Most, if not all, of these books were 5-star reads, but not all of my 5 star reads made it onto my favorites. I was pulling this list together I was thinking of the books that stuck with me the most and that I tend to recommend frequently as must-reads. If you follow me on Instagram, I don’t think any of these will come as a major shock.
Okay, enough babbling! Here’s my top 10 reads of 2021:
I’ve been procrastinating writing any 2021 recap posts as I always hate narrowing everything down. This will be my first in a series, as I want to highlight my favorite reads in a separate post.
First off, 2021 was a milestone year for me as I reentered the book community. I relaunched this blog back in March 2021 and joined Instagram as I truly missed the book community. It’s been such a joy to return to the book community and I’ve had such a blast getting to know more people and finding so many great reads.
And just like that…December and 2021 are over! I’m going to focus this post solely on December as I plan to do a separate post for a 2021 year in review.
December was not the best reading month for me, which I expected as it has my birthday and the holidays, plus I was traveling and spending time with my family and that means less reading time. In December, I managed to read 7 books, which is more than I thought!
Let’s dive into what the last reads of the year were!
Happy Halloween! Hard to believe it, but we’re at the end of another month. This year is just flying by.
I’ll be honest, October was a tough month for me. Work was super busy and I felt like I was in a bit of a reading rut. However, I did manage to binge-watch about 6 seasons of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, so that’s something, right?
October 2021 Reads
As I was in a reading rut this month, I only finished 6 books, which is probably the fewest books I’ve read in one month this whole year. I had purposefully kept my October TBR small as I could tell I was feeling very moody. Despite the fact I only had 5 books on my October TBR, I only read 2 of them and am in the middle of a third one!
Fall is officially here! I don’t know about you, but September flew by for me. I had a crazy month in my personal life as I got to lead the PR and go to New York to take my work public! It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience, but man, it seriously cut into my reading time as I was super busy.
September 2021 Reads
I also completely threw out my September TBR pretty quickly this month and just went with the books I feeling like reading. I ended up only reading 3 out of the 6 books on my TBR.
This month, I only ended up reading 8 books, which I know is a lot for some people but felt like not a ton for me.
Let’s get into what I read this month (hint it was Fever-centric):
Once again, I find myself asking how it is the end of the month already?? Summer truly flew by this year and I’m in denial that fall is right around the corner.
While August might have flew by, it was also an incredible reading month for me. I didn’t even realize how much I read until I sat down to write this. This month I read 11 books, bringing my total for the year up to 77 books! I’m feeling really good about surpassing my goal of reading a 100 books this month based on how the last few months of reading have gone.
August 2021 Reads
Looking back at my August TBR, I read 8 out of the 10 books on the list. The two I missed were The Day of the Duchess (which I skimmed for scenes of Caleb and Sesily in prep for Bombshell)and It Happened One Summer which I still really want to get to!
Another month in the books! I hate that summer is flying by!
July was a busy month for me – both on the reading front and personal front. I finally got to take a vacation to a beach this month. I haven’t done that since the summer before the pandemic so I was super excited!
On the reading front, July ended up being a very strong month! In July, I ended up reading 12 books, bringing my total for year up to 66 books. I’m about 8 books ahead of meeting my goal of 100 books this year so I feel like I’m in a good position to hit that this year.
I cannot believe June has come and gone. Does this year feel like it is flying by for anyone else, or is it just me?
Since we just passed the midpoint of the year, I thought I’d start with a quick check in on how I’m tracking against my reading goal for the year. This year, my goal is to read 100 books. So far, it looks like I’m track to meet that as I closed out June with my 54th book of the year. According to Goodreads (if we’re not friends, come add me!), that puts me about 5 books ahead.
