MY REVIEW

CW: murder; blood; suicidal ideation

I’ve been a huge Lady Sherlock fan for years now as it falls perfectly into my favorite (made-up) genre – lady detectives in Victorian England. Truly, we are so blessed that Berkley gave us a new Veronica Speedwell and a new Lady Holmes story within a week of each other.

A Tempest at Sea marks the seventh entry in Sherry Thomas’ incredibly smart spin on Sherlock Holmes. This book, more so than the previous few books in the series, feels like a lighter adventure – if you could say murder is light. In many ways, this feels like a classic detective story in the vein of Christie’s Death on the Nile. The stakes are lower as the threat from Moriarty has lessened after the events of Miss Moriarty, I Presume?, so it’s a nice change of pace to have a self-contained murder mystery aboard the RMS Provence. Now, that’s not to say the threat from Moriarty is gone entirely – he’s still lingering out there, but it’s nice that he’s not at the center of the mystery this time.

December 2022 Reading Recap

Hello, 2023! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year!

I took some time off from the holidays from blogging to spend time with the family, but I’m back and ready for action! I did a TON of reading in December (14 books to be exact) to help me hit my reading goal of the year, finishing up book 100 on New Year’s Eve. Hopefully, you hit all your bookish goals!

I will do a reading recap for 2022 sometime soon, as well as recap some of my favorite reads of the year so keep an eye out for that!

And now, let’s take a look at my last reads of the year.

July 2022 Reading Recap

Another month, come and gone! After a rough couple of reading month, I feel like I feel found my groove again with reading. July was my best reading month since January of this year as I ended up reading 12 books. That’s helped me get a bit of a lead on my reading goal of 100 books in 2022, which we love to see.

Additionally, I also feel like I have started to find the space to get back to my regular cadence of review. There is definitely some work to be done to get back to consistently reviewing 2-3 books per week, but I’ve got a schedule planned out for August that I’m hoping I can stick to as I am SO FAR behind in reviews. Seriously, there are books I read literally months ago on my to-be-reviewed list that I haven’t touched yet.

Anyways, let’s see what I read in July, shall we?

December 2021 TBR

How are we in the last month of 2021?? This year has been a rollercoaster of a ride, but I’m so grateful I’ve been able to get back into the book community! I’ve truly missed it and I feel like I’ve made so many great connections since I relaunched the blog and my Instagram in March.

I’m keeping my TBR pretty small for December as I want to leave room to find some fun holiday romances to read. I need to do some digging for some good holiday romances so if you have some recs, please drop them in the comments!

Here are the four books I hope to definitely get to this month:
