5 Book Series to Read While You Wait for Season 2 of Bridgerton

Happy Bridgerton month! We’re officially a few weeks away from the premiere of season 2 of Netflix’s smash hit Bridgerton, and I am so excited.

And I’m even more excited for season 2 as The Viscount Who Loved Me is tied with When He Was Wicked as my favorite book from the series.

If you’ve already read all the Bridgerton books and are looking for some other historical romances to check out, here are a few series centered on a central family (or two!) that might hit the spot:

MY REVIEW:

This might be my favorite book in the Sin for All Seasons series and I’m a bit shocked by that. I wasn’t really sure what to expect going in for Fancy’s story. Her upbringing is so different from that of the other Trewlove siblings. Born to Ettie Trewlove, the matriarch of the Trewlove clan who took in the nobility’s bastards and raised them as her own, Fancy was destined for greater things in live – a fancy house, a fancy man and fancy life. Being so much younger than her siblings and raised with these expectations, she was a bit a question mark to me, but I ended up loving her. I love her passion for books and you could tell she was truly happy when she was in her book shop.

MY REVIEW:

I really wanted to like this one more than I did, but a lot of parts fell a bit flat. For me, the story didn’t do enough to build up Finn and Lavinia’s romance. While we get a lot of flashbacks in the beginning to their romance when they were younger, their wasn’t enough attention focused on rebuilding that in the present day. They both went through some real trials during the time they were apart and it felt like their acceptance of what happened and coming back together happened way too quickly. I also felt like the connection was weaker when they reconnected again years late. I think I wanted there to be more work to their relationship before they jumped back into bed together.

MY REVIEW:

I really enjoyed this second installment in this series! Gillie was a really interesting character in the first book (from the little we saw of her) – a female tavern owner who is fiercely independent. I knew she’d be a great lead in this book. And yes while she’s independent, it does seem like she isolated herself from others as a form of protection. I was worried this would cause major issues later down the line as the relationship between Gillie and Thorne progressed, but it didn’t as Gillie realized letting someone in could fill a need.
